I took Dexter to the vet earlier today. He assured me several times that the hump on his hip is just fatty deposits. He actually has one of these humps on each hip but one looks more pronounced. I told him that my parents were worrying that he had cancer and he explained again that they are fatty pads. He said lots of dogs get them and some get them worse than other dogs do. He also said the lump in his neck had not changed since his last visit and said that it was not anything to be concerned about. Dexter has never acted like the lump in his neck bothers him. It just bothers me more that it is there.
He did say that his skin allergies are causing him to itch and scratch and that he is seeing lots of miserable dogs lately with bad allergies caused by any number of things like pollen, mold etc. He felt Dexter's spine and rib area and went "ahh yes" and then showed me a small replica of the discs that are in the spine. He said that when Dexter is scratching and twisting around he has caused a strain there and that is causing his pain.
He said it is much like when a person might bend over or twist in a way that causes strain. He gave Dex an injection for the itching and he said it also had a muscle-relaxant in it. He told me to put warm compresses on his middle back area when he seems to be in discomfort.
Dexter was feeling so much better by the time we got out to the car to leave. He has been resting good ever since we got home too and has not been itching and whining.
I found a cd that had some pictures on it including pictures from the day that I was reunited with Dexter. The story about that is here. This is a picture taken that day. I still find it hard to believe that I got him back after so many long months of missing him.

I'm glad that you got someone to tell you what was wrong and to ease your mind. Spot has those fatty tumors too, I keep an eye on them anyway.
Dexter is so cute!
I just read the story about how you got Dexter back. I got all teary eyed! He was meant to be your dog, for sure.
I had a dog covered in them. They looked like strange pink pillows
Poor thing I'm glad dexter is safe and sound.
My Kadi is getting the fatty pads on her hips, and she and Butch each have a couple of the fatty cysts. Our vet, like yours, said it's nothing to worry about.
I followed the link back to the story of your reunion with Dexter, and I'm so glad I did. I had no idea you'd been so sick. Your recovery and your reunion with Dexter were both remarkable. Thanks for sharing this with us.
I'm glad the vet was able to help Dexter. The boy deserves it!
Janet, even though my vet has assured me that it is just a fatty deposit on his hip, my mother is doubtful and worrying that it is something much worse...cancer. I am confident with what the vet has told me though!
Tink I remember getting teary-eyed while writing that post and reliving it all over again. Yeah, he was meant to be my dog!
Hammer and Velvet, nice to see you here! Love your blogs! See, I will have to let my mother know that it isn't that uncommon for dogs to have those fatty pads.
Mrs. Who, yes he deserves it...he has been through so much.
How's Dexter doing? Maybe the only thing that would ease your mom's mind is if she pays for a biopsy.
Ohhhh! I want him!! :)
I'm thinking about performing a reverse cell phone look up by going on the internet. I am receiving these phone calls by someone that I don't know and am interested who believe that they are dialing. All sorts of crazy texting and messages are being left on my voice mail and its beginning to drive me insane. And so, exactly where can i find these reverse phone search web sites?
