Fifty years ago today, my parents were married. This is a picture taken not too long before they got married. Dad had brought Mom down south here to meet his parents for the first time. That is my Grandpa in the background. Mom was 16 years old and Dad was 20. So young! They have been through trials and hardships but they have made it together for fifty years. We had a nice family get-together for them on Sunday. All my siblings were there and my daughter drove up here too and stayed until yesterday. We ate lots of goodies. My sister made the prettiest two-tier anniversary cake with silk sunflowers on it. My mother loves sunflowers.
My sister is supposed to email me the pictures she took with her digital camera and when I get them, I will probably put up a picture of her cake.
I must say it was the very best white cake I have ever tasted in my whole life! Everyone else said the same thing.
We all gave Mom and Dad a card with a nice big sum of money in it so now they can take a little trip somewhere when the time is right. They haven't yet decided where to go but they were very surprised. They have been getting cards in the mail from old friends who saw their anniversary announcement and pictures (wedding day and current pic) in our local newspaper.
I had such a good visit with my daughter. I wish my vacation had not ended on Monday because my daughter was still here. I won't see her again until Christmas time.
My dog is having some problems again. I think he may have arthritis. I am taking him to the vet this coming Monday. He also has a hump on his rear that seems to be getting bigger. I have had the vet look at this before and the vet said it was nothing to be concerned about but both my parents, daughter and I think it looks like it is growing. This time I am going to insist that they do some bloodwork and maybe a needle biopsy of his hump on his rear and also the quarter size lump on his neck which the vet pooh-pahed too.
I keep having troubles getting my paragraphs here to have the right enough space between them! I hope this one looks better.
Thank you to all who wished me a Happy Birthday! My parents gave me a cute cupcake candle, a Bee Gees cd and some money in a card. My sister gave me a cd from my Amazon wish list. It is The Flaming Lips' "Soft Bulletin". My younger brother and his wife gave me some Shania perfume and some chocolate/raspberry candies and the cutest musical birthday card. My daughter recently bought herself a new plasma tv so she gave me her Toshiba flat panel tv which isn't very old. My dvd's work on it too! I was having troubles with my Netflix dvds and I thought maybe the problem was with my little tv.

My parents were 16 and 20 when they got married! Congrats to your folks.
what a great update! I hope your parents take that trip and don't decide to spend the money on something run-of-the-mill.
Yes, take Dexter to the vet, and don't let the vet tell you "it's nothing to worry about". If you aren't happy with it, take him to another vet for a second opinion. Please let us know what happens there.
I'm glad you have a new TV, we have a terrible time with ours. Mom thinks it's the cable, but I think our TV is on its last legs, it's about 12 years old.
Wow, cmk! And thanks!
Janet, I wish I could have been able to get him into the vet Sat. morning but they didn't have any openings when I called. I didn't sleep much all night because he was so restless. The vet I am taking him to is a different one that I used to take him to. This one is the one my parents now take their dogs to also. He is a farther drive but he is a better vet I think. The other vet seems to love cats and also big farm animals but he doesn't have a good bedside manner with smaller dogs. This morning when I called they told me since I can't get in to see them until Monday that I should give Dexter a half an aspirin every four hours. He seems to be resting better tonight.
oh, poor baby! I give Spot one or two of my mom's 81mg buffered aspirin sometimes when he's stiff from playing. Have to hide them in something really well otherwise he'll spit them out.
Please let me know what the vet says-I'll be back later to check!
Congrats... that's a sweet pic!!
