I was off work today since I have to work this weekend. I always have Mondays off after I work a weekend too. I haven't done much of anything productive today except some laundry!
I've been reading alot lately. Right now I'm reading a wonderful book called A Girl Named Zippy: Growing Up Small in Mooreland Indiana. It is a memoir written by Haven Kimmel. I have another book by the same author to read after this one and several other books waiting in the wings. This book has had me laughing out loud several times. The book kind of reminds me of a couple other favorites of mine, The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls and Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim by David Sedaris. If you have read and enjoyed either one of those two books, you will probably like A Girl Named Zippy.
I am going to cancel my membership with Netflix. I have two reasons. One is that it seems that out of the three selections I receive each time, one or two of them I am not able to watch on my new dvd player. They work fine over at my parent's on their dvd player though. On my player I get weird white bars that move across the screen and also the picture is too dark and can't be adjusted. The other reason is that I recently added Showtime to my cable tv service. Showtime has been running some movies that I even had in my Netflix queue.
I know it is lame but my guilty pleasure is watching the tv show Big Brother. Been watching that show every summer that it has been on. I've been able to watch Big Brother After Dark on Showtime too. I will be so happy if they boot out that obnoxious Evil Dick on the show. I know, I know...reality television is stupid but like I said...it is my guilty pleasure!
I deleted the post I had up that was titled "of sweaters and murder". I have it saved in my email but I didn't feel comfortable keeping it on the blog. Also, to add irony and something that convinced me further to delete it is that on Wednesday while I was at work, my old high school friend "D" came in and we had a nice conversation. I hadn't seen her in a couple years. We talked about our 30 year class reunion that is coming up. She really surprised me with something she said. She said that she has only gone to one reunion (the 20th) and she won't go to anymore. She said that when she was in high school she was so miserable and didn't really have any happy memories. Then she said, "the only fun memories I really have from high school have to do with you, Cindi and Kathy (another mutual friend from school)". That really surprised me. In a good way. She went on to show me pictures of her two little grandsons and yes, we touched on the subject of her brother. She told me that she is still in shock over it and at this point she can't believe that he has done anything he has been accused of. She said if it is proven to be true, then she hopes he gets help too. She said when he was growing up, he wouldn't have hurt a bug. I can't imagine how hard this must be.
Anyway, if none of this makes sense...I can email you the deleted post if requested.
One of my co-workers gave me some fresh tomatoes from her garden. I am getting hungry so I think I will go slice up a tomato and heat up a Lean Cuisine steak and cheese Panini. I love those paninis. Mmmm!

I haven't read those books.. I guess I lean toward "darker" ones, not so much humor.
I can't imagine what that poor girl, now woman, "D" must be going through. I think that's nice that she counts you as some of her best memories. That says something about you, doesn't it?
I love fresh tomatoes!
I didn't see this post till today-I didn't steal your post title, hope you didn't think that! Great minds think alike, I guess.
Will you watch "Weeds" on Showtime? I was wondering if it's as good as I've heard. (I don't get Showtime).
I've been thinking about trying those paninis, they look good on the box.
I can't remember the last time I rented a movie.. I don't think I've ever gotten one that played right though.
My husband's co-workers keep giving him vegetables and we shamefully keep having to throw them away because we let them go bad... I feel awful for it! We are hell on fresh food..
Sue, I agree...I can't imagine how D is coping with this.
Janet, oh I didn't think that! I've used that title some other times when I can't think up anything. Great minds do think alike!
There are several shows that I can watch on Showtime (also Showtime On Demand) like Weeds, Brotherhood, Meadowlands, Californication, Dexter and some others. I started to watch Meadowlands a few weeks ago but fell asleep during it! I will try to watch it again on the On Demand. Same with Weeds. Just hope I don't fall asleep again! I'm bad about that sometimes.
Burg, I know what you mean about the veggies from friends. A gal at work gave me a bunch of cucumbers and they ended up going bad on me. Tomatoes...mmm those won't go bad on me though. I could overdose on fresh tomatoes. I like cucumbers too but I guess I just wasn't in the mood for them.
I love renting movies. Lately, I have been renting and not watching them all though... I need to read more.
Oh it's good to hear from you!
I think, all around, you did the right thing both putting that post up, and then taking it down. If that makes any sense. A good thing to visit with D, too. Very good. Without even realizing it, she let you know, absolutely and for true, about how right it was, they way you handled everything back then.
Too bad about NetFlix. It seemed like a good fit for you and it would have been nice if it had worked out.
But I'm glad you got Showtime. I'm not a movie lover the way you are but I certainly understand it.
And good ol' Trash TV is our Individual Right! Hey. I watch Judge Judy, okay?
heh!
Eat tomatoes while the sun shines...
I'm lost. Hit me, girl.
