My younger brother and my Dad went fishing earlier today and should be back home in a few hours. My sister and I plan to take Dad and Mom out to dinner to celebrate Father's Day. We don't know where we will go yet. My sister told Dad it would be his choice. I know he loves a certain Amish restaurant but it's quite a drive from here and he might not want to travel that far after fishing all day. We'll see. It is a beautiful day outside.
Happy Father's Day to all the daddies out there!

The Amish have restaurants? What do they serve there? (I've never been in Amish country, so excuse my ignorance.)
Mrs Who, the Amish restaurant my Dad likes is called Stolls Country Inn in Linton, Indiana. I've never been there myself but I found their website. The menu looks like standard American cuisine or country home cooking.
Another Amish restaurant my parents have gone to (and I have too) is located at Rockome Gardens at Arcola Illinois. Arcola is home to a lot of Amish people and my parents go there every year for the Raggedy Ann Festival. I've gone to Rockome Gardens a couple times for their annual National Counted Cross- Stitch Show. The main thing I remember about the restaurant there were the delicious home made pies, cobblers and other home made desserts. The restaurants are owned and operated by the families Yoder, Raber, Lapp which I know are common Amish surnames. We have a very small community of Amish living just the next town over from my town. They came to this area about 15 years ago and one of the families runs a little country grocery store. That little store is well known in this area for their smoked hams and homemade breads, pies and noodles. Our local Walmart has a hitching post in the parking lot for the Amish horse buggies too.
I was just thinking about that hitching post...I have never really seen any Amish people in the Walmart (although I don't really go to Walmart very often).
Every once in a while an Amish family will come to the hospital where I work. Not long ago an Amish man came in for some labwork and while he went to lab his teenaged son waited in the lobby. I noticed the son was pretty interested in some of the magazines in the lobby and I remember wondering if that would be considered a "no no" for him to read some of those magazines. It was just kind of funny to me to observe this Amish teen wearing a black hat, white shirt, black pants and suspenders and sitting in the lobby hunched over what looked like a celebrity gossip magazine with a scantily clad Lindsay Lohan or Paris Hilton on the cover. When his father came back from his test he threw the magazine down and followed his very quiet and stern looking father out of the hospital. They are always very quiet and shy acting when they come in.
We had a good one, dinner at Mom and Dad's, had a nice visit. I can't believe my Daddy is about to be 80 in August... I hate the feeling that I am constantly crossing my fingers and praying that he stays with us... Getting older really does have its pains!! For all of us!
Cindi, are you okay? You haven't posted in a while.
For some reason my latest blog post won't show up on my blog. I tried to post a blog post about an hour ago and even though it shows up in my dashboard list of posts (and I can view it there) it won't show up on the blog. Grrrr!!!!
